WORDS OF WISDOM FROM EARLY SCHOLARS

( Sent in By Malama Maimuna Husseini, Usmanu Danfodio University ,Sokoto)

Ø       ·        “Man is a being, equipped with the power of intellect and possessing unlimited desires, should he recognize no restraint in life, he can become a blood thirsty beast that can cause great destructions. Man’s real perfection lies in his liberating himself from the difficulty of illusory lusts and physical pleasures and in advancing on the part of humanity by improving his sensibilities disciplining himself and becoming acquainted with higher ideas and a wider experience and thinking.”

Ø      ·        “A human being loves nothing more dearly than its own ‘self’ one who suffers the most painful torture of guilt is in fact one who has been disowned and abandoned by his own ‘self’ hence conscious is the most effective agent in avoiding crime and sin, one who heeds the warning of the conscious and obeys its command finds mental peace and tranquility. “

Ø      ·        “Positive thoughts leads human being to perform fruitful actions, so also filthy thoughts drive them towards impurity and defilement, for human beings are a thinking creatures they first think and then translates their thoughts into action. When negative thoughts make way and spread like weeds, positive thoughts are gradually eliminated and their place taken by evil thoughts that blackens the heart and destroy one’s life.”

Ø      ·        “One who does not sow the seeds of goodness will not reap the fruits of kindness, serving the people and sacrificing for their sake is hard for someone who is selfish and self-centered, who greedily want everything for himself and is willing to sacrifice everything in order to attain his own ends. Some people considers themselves as being endowed with feelings and emotions; they are dismayed at witnessing the afflictions and misfortunes of others, but they are not willing to make any commitment involving responsibility that may forgone a part of their pleasures because they have not wanted to get used to even small and simple duties that could prepare them for more significant tasks.”

Ø      ·        “Not only that, some people never express any gratefulness –either in words or in deeds –no matter how much help or kindness they receive but also they remain dissatisfied, as if it were the responsibility of others to do them service and kindness, whereas their own duty and responsibility was to remain ungrateful and remain indifferent to the rights of others, such persons are in the ranks of animals”

Ø      ·          “The most brilliant kind of success is achieved by those who are able to analyze the cause of their failures and defeat and derive the utmost benefit from them, it is a mistake to be embarrassed by ones defeat, obstacle are like thorns that usually grow on the path of people of actions. The feeling of personal weakness and inadequacy may bring a person to a stand still and keep him from every kind of effort”

Ø      ·        “One of the essential and useful principles that contributes effectively to man’s progress and development is discipline and the quality of his activity, people who build their lives on deep foundations advance much more rapidly than those who act in a disorderly and un-discipline manner. More than anything else, society for its survival needs men of discipline and fortitude who are never deterred by corruption and difficulties.”

Ø      ·        “One of the basic necessities of social life is learning to get along with other people, one can hardly find two persons who have thoughts, beliefs, and feelings that are identical in all respects. It is rare to find people who are in complete agreement even in most insignificant matters of life, this fact must be kept in mind and one must try so far as one can, to get along with different kinds of dispositions and personalities, so that one is able to develop friendly and harmonious relations with associates and companions”.

·        “Never associate with four kinds of persons: the fool, the niggardly, the coward and the liar. As to the fool he will bring you harm despite his good intentions to do something for your benefits. As to the niggardly man he will only grab from you with out giving you anything in return. As to the coward, he will flee at the smallest danger abandoning not only you but even his own parents to their fate. As to the liar you cannot trust him even if he tells the truth.”
